I made oreo cupcakes and gave them out to friends and family and they told me to start my own cupcake business because there were delicious.
I made frosting made with cream cheese and powdered sugar.
Should I start my own cupcake business?
Hello Rebecca
It is so great to get such good compliments when you bake for family and friends isn't it? I love hearing stories like this.
If you are seriously thinking about starting your own cupcake business I would probably start reasonably small. By this I mean start telling friends and family that you will take orders for your cupcakes and see where that takes you.
The first thing you have to do is work out your pricing. What do your ingredients, elecricity, advertising etc cost you plus what is your hourly rate for baking and decorating cupcakes? Once you work out your costs you can then estimate your cost price and then add on your profit margin.
When starting it is probably best to only make a limited variety of flavors as that will help keep costs down as you will not need to keep as many ingredients on hand.
I have a page on my website about starting a cupcake business which will give you a few things to think about as you decide whether or not to pursue this business idea.
I hope this helps and good luck with your decision.
